Use of Concept Map Scaffolds to Promote Adaptive E-Learning in Web- Based System

چکیده
Scaffolds are a good method of implementing self-regulated learning. Use of prior knowledge makes the learner to understand a topic better. Learner adaptation enables a learner to be presented with content that matches his/her level of understanding. The main aim of this project is to use the adaptive scaffolds in form of concept maps in web-based elearning systems to play the role of learner guide. The learner creates a concept map from prior knowledge to show how he/she understands a certain domain of knowledge. The concept map takes into account the knowledge of the learner in that topic, and uses it to adapt to the user level. This is done by integrated evaluation where the learner is presented with a concept map that matches his level of understanding as he/she draws the concept map. The scaffolding and the adaptation are implemented using production rules. Hybrid Adaptive Educational Hypermedia Recommender Accommodating User’s Learning Style and Web Page Features
Personalized recommenders have proved to be of use as a solution to reduce the information overload problem. Especially in Adaptive Hypermedia System, a recommender is the main module that delivers suitable learning objects to learners. Recommenders suffer from the cold-start and the sparsity problems. Furthermore, obtaining learner’s preferences is cumbersome. Most studies have only focused...
متن کاملTowards Open Corpus Adaptive E-learning Systems on the Web
Development of conceptual knowledge is an important part of education. In individualized instruction this aim can be facilitated by concept maps interconnected with learning materials. Traditional adaptive web-based elearning systems use a closed and static corpus, which is predefined in the design time. But there is plenty of learning resources publicly available on the Web, which provide a hu...

متن کاملThe Effectiveness of Scaffolding in a Web-Based, Adaptive Learning System
This study combined ideas from learning hierarchy and scaffolding theory to design a web-based, adaptive learning system to investigate the effectiveness of scaffolding for elementary school students having different levels of learning achievement. The topic chosen for learning was the Three States of Water. A quasi-experiment was conducted. In this experiment, students were divided into three ...
متن کاملRRLUFF: Ranking function based on Reinforcement Learning using User Feedback and Web Document Features
Principal aim of a search engine is to provide the sorted results according to user’s requirements. To achieve this aim, it employs ranking methods to rank the web documents based on their significance and relevance to user query. The novelty of this paper is to provide user feedback-based ranking algorithm using reinforcement learning. The proposed algorithm is called RRLUFF, in which the rank...
